Melasma treatment combines carefully selected laser or light therapy with skincare and diligent sun protection to manage this common, often recurring form of facial pigmentation.
What Is Melasma?
Melasma is a common skin condition that causes patches of darker pigmentation, typically on the face, due to overactive pigment-producing cells. It's frequently triggered or worsened by hormonal changes, such as pregnancy or birth control use, as well as sun and heat exposure, and it tends to affect deeper skin tones more often than lighter ones.
Because melasma sits deeper in the skin than typical sun spots and can be aggravated by heat and inflammation, it requires a more careful treatment approach than standard pigmentation correction.
